Stage 1 of the East Core Precinct project at the Australian National Botanic Gardens involved the enhancement and expansion of the outdoor visitor experience surrounding the Pollen Café.

The works included the demolition of the existing timber deck and construction of a new extended outdoor dining area, installation of a gabion rock retaining wall, Corten steel edging, irrigation infrastructure and new turf. The project also incorporated extensive landscaping works, including the creation of a boulder garden, supply and planting of native garden beds, and construction of outdoor interpretive monuments. The completed works delivered an attractive and functional outdoor space that complements the natural landscape of the Gardens while enhancing visitor amenity.
