BENEDICT HOUSE CHILDCARE CENTRE

Form Projects was engaged by Jam St Investments to design, refurbish and construct an extension to Benedict House Childcare Centre, creating a modern early learning facility while preserving the character of the existing heritage-listed building.

The project combined the adaptive reuse of the existing heritage structure with the construction of a contemporary extension, delivering a purpose-built childcare centre that meets current regulatory and operational requirements. Spanning approximately 750m² across two levels, the completed facility features seven activity rooms catering for children aged 0 to 4 years, two cot rooms, a kitchenette and food preparation area, laundry facilities, reception, administration offices, staff amenities and planning rooms. Accessibility was enhanced through the integration of a new lift alongside the existing stair access.

The works involved the demolition and removal of an existing cottage located at the rear of the property, followed by significant civil and earthworks to facilitate the new extension. Concurrently, extensive refurbishment works were undertaken within the heritage-listed building to restore and repurpose the existing spaces while maintaining their historical significance.

Through careful planning and integration of heritage and contemporary construction elements, Form Projects successfully delivered a high-quality childcare facility that balances modern functionality with the preservation of an important local heritage asset.
